Observation on Teacher

Planning for teaching

Before teaching in the classroom, the teacher has prepared the teaching plan.  A teaching plan is a teacher’s detailed description of the course or lesson. A daily lesson plan is developed by a teacher to guide class learning. Details will vary depending on the preference of the teacher, subject being covered, and the needs of the students. The subject of the study is Practical Research 1 for 12th grade.

Preparing lessons and material

Preparing the teaching plan means preparing lessons and material as well. The teacher prepared the lessons well. The material was so complete, structured, and easy to understand. The material was not only from textbook, but also from other sources, such as education journal, internet,  etc.

Teaching in class

The teacher did the rules of teaching well. It started from greeting, praying, monitoring classroom routine, cleanliness, discipline, and checking attendance. For the first class began at 10:00 A.M. end at 12:00 A.M. The second class began at 01:00 P.M end at 03:00 P.M.  The third class began at 3:00 P.M end at 5:00 P.M.

In my personal opinion, the teacher demonstrated me that she met all the following standards for excellence in teaching. The teacher engaged students academically. In keeping with one of his goals this term, he consciously asked students to build on previous knowledge obtained in the class, starting in the first few minutes of class when he asked students to  review previous lesson while he got the classroom ready. She used MS Power Point slides, a chalk on green board, and many direct questions to students to communicate during the learning process. The teacher was so detailed and very specific. She always used example for making the students easily understood.

The class always divided into several  groups for brainstorming and having discussion related to the lesson topic . The teacher did an excellent job of balancing providing students with guidance and support with giving them space to think hard themselves and to be creative. She helped students by leading them step by step through the concepts. At the same time, she did not provide them with all the answers, but she made them work themselves. Also, almost all students actively participated—they volunteered or the teacher called on them or both.

Measurement and Evaluation

For Practical Research 1 there are three evaluation, namely performance tasks, written works, quarterly exam.

Others

These are very minor suggestions; this was an excellent class session. Watching the teacher’s class reminded me of the best Practical Research classes I took myself, in which complex theories were made simple and clearly tied to my daily life so that I still use them regularly.
