Purposes of practicum
The practical teaching aims to create initial experience of real academic and non-academic learning processes for pre-service student teacher. The experience can be teaching experience, interacting with learners both in learning capacity and character building, expanding horizons, training and developing competencies especially pedagogies, social, personality, and professionalism, dedication and ability solve real problems in the field.
Procedures of practicum
It started from orientation, teacher and classroom observation, actual teaching, and evaluation.
Outcomes of practicum
- The pre-service teacher can improve the knowledge, skill, confidence, experience attitudes in an educational institution in their country and abroad.
- The pre-service teacher knows the various education system in other countries. He/she can learn and apply it, if it is suitable to her/his country for improving a better education system.
- The pre-service teacher knows the local culture and works culture that can open her./his world view wider
The challenge of practicum
- It was quite difficult for creating fun classroom atmosphere, but I still tried to make it.
- Accent was also became challenge for me. As my English accent was American, in contrast, my students accent was Phillipino English. We had different when we pronounce words with suffix “-nation, -ssion, -ion,..”, I pronounce it “/-syen/”. On the other hand, my students pronounce it “/-syon/”. Sometimes, it was misunderstanding.
- The students were so critical, active, and super participative. I should prepare myself really well, so I could perform in from of them well. I should learn and study more related to lesson topic.
Overall implementation
- SEA Teacher Project has given the opportunity to the students to apply and develop the knowledge and skills in actual situation.
- Through practical teaching activity made pre-service teacher aware that teaching or becoming a teaching was not only mastering material or lesson, but also he/she also be able to recognize each character of the student as well. It aimed to choosing kind of learning methods and strategies that used.
- Bonding and interacting with students everyday successfully gave me tons of energy, dozens of spirit, and thousands of love that really made my day.
Suggestion and future improvement
The SEA Teacher Project 6th batch has been good, but for the future it will be better if the explanation for making the content of blog clearer. As according to me, the guidance for self-report is quite difficult to understand. There are many repetition points and words there. It doesn’t need to repeat because in the previous part it has mentioned.
