Teaching Practice

Teaching practice

My subject teaching was Practical Research 1 for 12th grade. I taught on Monday to Friday, and the duration for each day was six hours. Two hours for teaching GAS 2 track (General Academic  Strand), two hours for teaching TVL track (Technical Vocational and Livelihood), and two hours for assisting my coordinating teacher in STEM 2 track (Science and Technology, Engineering, Mathematic).

For one week to go for my actual teaching, I was the one who handle the class for having discussion about research design, question, title, justifications or reasons, scope and limitation of the study, statement of the problem, and significance of the study.

I started the class by greeting, praying, monitoring classroom cleanliness and orderliness, and checking attendance.  Students began with my reviewing about the previous lesson and moved into new topic discussion. I consciously asked students to build on previous knowledge obtained in the class, starting in the first few minutes of class when he asked students to  review previous lesson while I got the classroom ready.

I always divided the class into several group, or I can call it as  cooperative learning. The main objective in the application of cooperative learning models is students will be able to learn in groups with their friends by respecting each other’s opinions and providing opportunities for others to express their ideas in groups. When they have been in a group, I asked them to have brainstorming related to the topic lesson. Brainstorming is a way to generate ideas within a group setting. During brainstorming, helped students by leading them step by step through the concepts.I delivered the lesson helped by MS. PowerPoint slides, a chalk on green board, and many direct questions to students to communicate during the learning process of class. Almost all students actively participated—they volunteered or I called their names. I tried to encourage students by genuinely listening, letting them know when I liked what they said, and I also tried to ask them to give example or elaboration about their answer or explanation.

In the end of the class, I tried to encourage student for wrapping up the lesson, and giving them some assignments related to the topic lesson.
